NIP 44 is prone to spam. PoW would help, but would result in messages being missed. As it is, syncing is very spotty. When another user doesn't have dm relays configured, messages can't be sent and there's nothing anyone can do.

  • Add pow to sent messages
  • Only show "message can't be sent" on send so that there's no scary warning flash
  • Re-phrase to "This person does not accept direct messages"
