People join spaces, expecting to get notified about activity. This doesn't happen because you have to "bookmark" a room. Maybe start by notifying about all activity regardless of room, then allow users to mute rooms they don't want to hear about? This would be separate from bookmarks, which means we have membership, bookmarks, and mutes to deal with, which is a lot.
